R.Nelson

R. Nelson is a Washington, D.C.-based songwriter, producer, and recording artist creating grown-man R&B and soul rooted in vulnerability, groove, and D.C. musical culture. A producer before stepping forward as an artist, Nelson approaches every record as a songwriter first, drawing influence from soul, R&B, rock, and the Go-Go sound that shaped his hometown. His debut album, Music and Written By R. Nelson, Vol. 1: Grown Man Energy, explores adult relationships, accountability, longing, emotional honesty, and the conversations people often leave unfinished. Songs including “Gravity,” “Do I Deserve Love?,” “Unable to Love,” and “Cup of Tea” have helped his music reach audiences beyond Washington through international press, independent radio, interviews, playlists, and chart appearances. In 2026, Nelson continued expanding the catalog with releases such as the Cup of Tea EP, using alternate versions, perspectives, and arrangements to explore songs beyond the original recording. R. Nelson releases music through Ashy Knuckle Productions, part of Nelson Creative Group, alongside lifestyle brand Team Mumbo
