You know, with all the intensity and raw energy of my usual Industrial Techno and Spoken Word tracks, sometimes I need a different kind of release, a different soundscape to explore. 'Ascent' really came from that place. I've always been fascinated by journeys, whether it's a physical road trip across Canada for my pop-up shows or an internal philosophical exploration. This track, in many ways, is a musical representation of that journey – starting from a quiet, almost contemplative space, much like those moments before a show when I'm just setting up, feeling the anticipation build. It's about that gradual, almost imperceptible growth, pushing through something to reach a new understanding or a new peak.
Creating 'Ascent' was an emotional journey in itself. I wanted to capture that feeling of overcoming, of striving for something greater, which I think resonates with the core of what I try to do with my art – provoking thought and pushing boundaries. It's a departure from my usual, more direct vocal narratives, but the emotional arc is just as compelling, if not more so, because it’s conveyed purely through sound. I envisioned those moments of soaring hope and resilience, much like the feeling after a powerful chorus carries the audience, or the sense of triumph when a difficult concept finally clicks into place.
This piece, 'Ascent,' is my invitation to listeners to find their own peak, their own moment of triumph. It's a reminder that even from the quietest beginnings, there's always an upward trajectory, a path to something grander and more expansive. While my live performances are about immediate connection, this track is about a shared, internal journey, a collective breath of inspiration. It’s a testament to the idea that even without words, music can tell the most profound stories.
