Bio
David Roy is a Calgary-based country artist bringing the grit, heart and storytelling of classic country music into the modern day. Born out of the working-class spirit of Western Canada and forged through years of playing rock ’n’ roll, Roy has found his true musical home in country. Drawing inspiration from legends like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Billy Joe Shaver, his music is rooted in honest stories, hard living, heartbreak, friendship, loss and the characters that make life worth singing about. Formerly fronting the Dave Spivak Project, Roy has traded rock ’n’ roll for a more stripped-down, honky-tonk sound — one built around guitars, steel strings, and songs that tell it like it is. His music carries the feel of an old jukebox in a smoky bar: raw, unapologetic and deeply personal. His recent single “She Don’t Like The Way I Cry” explores grief, love and the struggle to process loss after the sudden death of a close friend. David Roy isn’t trying to recreate the past. He’s carrying the spirit of traditional country forward — one song, one story and one honky-tonk at a time.
